When someone pulls out their phone and searches for a plumber, a cafe, a dentist or a tradie near them, Google does not send them to a list of websites. It shows them a map and three local listings sitting above everything else. That block is the local pack, and the businesses in it win the calls. Your Google Business Profile, the free tool many people still call Google My Business or GMB, is what decides whether you appear in that map pack. They are the same thing. Google My Business was renamed to Google Business Profile in 2021. Many business owners still call it GMB, so we use both terms. The free tool that controls how you appear on Google Search and Google Maps is now officially called Google Business Profile.

How important are reviews for local rankings?
